Color Scheme

Understanding how colors work can be a huge lifesaver when planning an outfit. It prevents you from picking outfits that are painful on the eyes, and from picking outfits that are too drab.To begin, let’s think back to art class in elementary school...

Look familiar? This very simple color wheel will be key to finding colors that work.

As a general rule, colors that are directly next to each other on the color wheel will always work together in an outfit.

Colors that are directly across from each other are called Complementary Colors. These colors look good together, but it can be hard to wear them in an outfit, as they each make the other look particularly intense. Instead, pairing a complementary color scheme with it’s intermediate color (Red and blue green, for example) works better and looks more sophisticated.

You can also try pairing colors that form a right angle with each other on the color wheel; for example, blue and pink work together well, as do yellow and red orange.
On the other hand, neutrals, such as brown or the classic black and white, can be paired with just about any color you want. Surprisingly, the blue in denim jeans are also considered a neutral (at least in the fashion world!), so you have a lot of freedom when creating outfits with jeans.

Jewelry is fairly simple to match up - pair silver jewelry with your cool toned outfits, and your gold jewelry with your warm colored outfits.
So that just about wraps it up! Nice and easy, when you break it down.

P.S ~ All these tips also work for your makeup, especially for your eye makeup and your dress!
